Consumer Class Actions
Our consumer product and consumer fraud experience is extremely varied and wide-ranging. We have brought public attention to mass tort cases concerning defective home building products, home appliances, lawn mowers, gas heaters, unventilated clothes dryers and many more.Local and national media alike have been fascinated by our clients' cases of consumer fraud, including such easy credit scams as "loan flipping" and "credit packaging." Our clients cases on "rapid refund" scams involving loans made against anticipated tax refunds was national news, and the media has widely reported on other cases, including unscrupulous banking policies, investment fraud, and biased auto lending practices.
We have even brought attention to cases involving sales of cemetery spaces that were already owned -- or already occupied.
Bias Class Actions
We have had considerable experience in all types of discrimination complaints, especially cases involving workplace bias.
Much of this work has had the goal of adding plaintiffs to class action complaints or to raise the public profile of these cases for the “court of public opinion.” We have brought media attention to cases involving denial of employment advancement on account of race and gender; denial of retirement benefits; wrongful firings and other similar matters. We have brought attention to a case of environmental racism, as well as various types of discrimination that were outside the mainstream of such issues, including same-sex harassment and pregnancy discrimination.
Medical Product Class Actions
Beginning with Bendectin and continuing through the controversies surrounding fen-Phen, L-Tryptophan, Tylenol™ and more recently, Vioxx™, we have brought national and local media attention to class actions involving a wide range of pharmaceuticals. For example, the coverage we brought to lawsuits involving Hemophilia clotting factor infected with HIV was widely reported across the nation. We have also had experience in "non-medical" food supplements, including ephedra-based products.
In addition, we have publicized claims over defective medical products, including artificial joints, pacemakers, and various classifications of implantable devices ranging from silicone gel breast augments to pedical screws.
